The Lander Valley Tigers boys’ swimming and diving team set a new Class 3A state record in the 200 freestyle relay last Saturday.

At the Bruce Gresly Invite in their home pool, the team of Dylan Huelskamp, Brennen Blackburn, Nolan McFadden, and Jonny Kulow swam the relay in 1:25.75 in the video above. Their margin over the runner-up team was just over 7.5 seconds.

The old record also belonged to Lander. It was a time of 1:27.15 set at the 2020 Class 3A Wyoming High School Boys Swimming and Diving State Championships in the preliminary round last February in Laramie. Kulow and McFadden were part of that record-breaking relay, as well.

Huelskamp set the pace with a split time of 22.86 seconds. Blackburn followed with a blazing 21.42 seconds. McFadden went into the pool third and swam a split of 21.71 seconds. Kulow was the anchor and had an amazing 19.76 seconds split.

The Tigers have won 27 state championships in boys’ swimming and diving. They have won an astounding 24 in a row. The last time Lander didn’t win a swimming title was in 1996. They are the favorites in Class 3A to win again next month.
