Local Pilots Become Heroes Through Wyoming Angel Flights

Now and then you might hear the sound of a small single or twin-engine propellor plane and wonder where they are going, as you watch them pass overhead.

In some cases that is a local Wyoming pilot, playing the part of an Angel.

Each day, volunteer pilots use their passion for flying to help people in need access non-emergency, far-off medical care.

The flights are FREE to those who are in need fo transportation.

Through an easy online dashboard, volunteers choose which missions they fly and how often they fly.

By joining Angel Flight West these local pilots have helped people battling life-threatening illnesses overcome transportation barriers to reach life-saving care.

Angel Flight West serves the Western states, including Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

After a diagnosis of Merkel Cell Carcinoma, Timothy needed our help flying from his home in Laramie, Wyoming to medical care at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.

That's a long trip by car. It would include stops, hotels, and meals added to the many other costs.

AFW volunteer pilots answered the call, with Command Pilots Trevor Moody David Taylor, and Stephen Elop flying Timothy to treatment earlier this year.

With support from the Wyoming Community Foundation, Angel Flight West is reaching more Wyoming residents like Tim who need transportation in order to access health care and other essential services far from home.

Western states like Wyoming are often called "Fly Over Country."

There are some very long roads with not much along the way.

Flights like this are, quite literally, life-saving.
