The annual U.S Marine Corps Junior and U-16 National Wrestling Tournament began on Friday at the FargoDome in North Dakota. This is billed as the largest wrestling tournament in the world with close to 7000 wrestlers competing.

So far, the girls' freestyle events have been completed as in the U-16 division, Lily Quintanilla of Thermopolis finished 4th with a record of 6-2. She is the defending Wyoming State Champion at 115 pounds and wrestled at 112 pounds in Fargo.

Also in the girls' U-16 division, Riley Meyer of Kemmerer went 3-2 at 100 pounds, Sarah Eddy from Rock Springs went 2-2 at 155, Jaydn Graham from Jackson was 1-2 at 100 and 4 other wrestlers went 0-2 in their respective weight classes; Caydence Watters of Natrona, Glenrock's Gilliam Holman, Tawny Bertolini from Greybull and Lander's Harlie Velarde.

In the girls' junior division, Sheridan's Rebecca Oetken had a strong performance, advancing to the round of 32 in the 190 weight class. She was 5-2 and is the defending Wyoming State Champion at that weight. Tai McBride of Jackson who is another Wyoming State Champion went 3-2 at 115 pounds, Veil Foreman from Star Valley was 4-2 at 145, Aaliyah Martin of Dubois went 2-2 at 235, Meadow King from Cheyenne Central won 2, and lost 2 at 145 pounds while Skylee Gangwish of Kelly Walsh went 2-2 at 140. Gabby Dowling from Greybull was 1-2 at 140 and Danika Crumrine was 0-2 at 140.

The boys' portion of the tournament started on Monday and there are some big names in the junior division like defending 4A 150-pound State Champion Liam Fox, 3A 120-pound State Champ Ryan Nutt from Pinedale, and 120-pound 2A State Champion Roany Proffit.
