Chey. Central Remains in 4A Football Playoff Hunt Beating KW

Cheyenne Central's football team has been on the losing end of some very close games this season. There were enough of them to put them on the bubble in the 4A playoff picture but they enhanced their chances of making the postseason immensely with a 24-14 home win over Kelly Walsh on Friday.

Each team found the end zone in the 1st quarter as Central quarterback Lane Clement found Nathan Brenchley for a 74-yard touchdown to put the Tribe in front 7-0. Kelly Walsh answered with a 4-yard run for a score from Ethan Hague to even the game at 7.

Central got into gear in the second quarter as Clement threw another touchdown pass, this time to Tate Berry, which covered 14 yards to bump the lead to 14-7. The Indians got another touchdown in the quarter on a 17-yard run to the house from Will Pauley, and Central led 21-7 at the halftime break.

KW came up with a 3rd quarter touchdown from Landon Walker to cut the lead to 21-14 but that would be the last time they would score in the contest. Central's only score in the 2nd half was a field goal and the Tribe defense held on from there.

Central is 2-6 on the year so here is their playoff scenario entering the regular season finale at Natrona: eliminated with a loss to NC; No. 8 seed with a win over NC, Laramie loss to Sheridan, a KW win over Rock Springs, and Thunder Basin win over South. No. 6 seed with a win, a KW loss, and a TB loss on the points tiebreaker; No. 7 seed with a win, a TB win, and a KW loss.

Kelly Walsh is 3-5 on the year and wraps up the regular season at home on Friday vs. Rock Springs. The Trojan's playoff scenario is as follows. No. 5 seed with a win versus Rock Springs; No. 6 seed with a loss to Rock Springs and a Thunder Basin loss to South; No. 7 seed with a loss to Rock Springs and a Thunder Basin win over South. No. 8 seed with a loss to Rock Springs, Thunder Basin win over South and a Central win over NC. Eliminated with a loss, Laramie win, and Central win.
