When I was growing up in the 1990s, I can remember my Grandpa shaking his head and muttering the phrase I've heard myself say over 30 years later, "Kids these days."

During my high school days, Guess Jeans that were tight-rolled, Zubas pants, and Starter jackets were all the rage. Although I grew up in what we called 'Cornfield High,' we were still influenced by the outside world.

MTV was still influential, with shows like 'Real World,' 'Beavis & Butthead,' and 'Singled Out,' which were how we discovered the latest trends and slang words.

As I mentioned, I saw and heard my Grandpa shaking his head many times, but I didn't care. I was a teen and cool. So I thought, anyway.

Some of the words and phrases that were impacting our world at that time were things like:

  • "As If" (no way)
  • "Booyah" (take that)
  • "Talk to the hand." (I'm not interested)
  • "Psych/sike" (just joking, not serious)
  • "Da Bomb" (the best or excellent)
  • "Eat my shorts." (bug off, man)
  • "Not" (go back on your last statement)
  • "Fresh" (New/ cool)
  • "Schwing" (hot girl)
  • "No Duh" (Of course I know that)
  • "Fly" (awesome)
  • "All that and a bag of chips." (the best, ever)

Ok, I get why Grandpa got irritated with our stylish talk. I've just found a list of slang words that kids are using today, and I've started shaking my head just like he did.

A spokesperson from Unscrambler.com explained the new trends in slang.

Popular slang in 2025 continues to be heavily influenced by TikTok, Instagram, gaming, streaming, Gen Z and Alpha online communities. Trends from social media spread rapidly via memes and viral challenges. Fueled by technology our language adapts to new slang trends more rapidly than ever. Slang is a fascinating and fun mirror of our culture.

If you have teens or tweens, you've probably had to Google the phrase "what in the heck does...(enter modern age slang word)...mean?"

Here's the Top 10 slang words/ phrases Wyomingites have had to Google in 2025

  1. Huzz - An attractive girl or group of girls.
  2. Sybau - Shut your B%*^H @$$ up.
  3. Sigma - A person who is a "Lone Wolf" and doesn't follow the crowd
  4. 6-7 - There's NO LITERAL MEANING to this; they just say it. (Some say it has to do with height, but there's no proof in the pudding)
  5. Chopped - Undesirable, ugly, not attractive.
  6. Mogging - Doing better than someone else. It could be looks, skills, or success.
  7. Bop - Someone who gets around. Lots of 'partners.' Our word in the 90s was the same as a garden tool.
  8. 41 - Again with the random numbers. This time, the meaning refers to absurd humor.
  9. Unc - Short for uncle, but used to address older people.
  10. Zesty - Someone who is full of spunk.

Honorable mention slang words:

  • Delulu - delusional
  • Clanker - derogatory word for AI or Bots
  • Ohio - anything strange or absurd
  • Aura farming - refers to a person who is doing something to look cool.

I'm not sure if knowing these terms and phrases will make you a cool 'unc,' or if they'll think you're just 'aura farming,' but knowing them could be beneficial. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to slip into my Blue and White striped Zumbaz!
