If you haven't served in the military, you'll never truly understand what a veteran goes through. Many of the men and women who've vowed to protect our country have seen and lived through situations that many couldn't imagine.

For a lot of veterans, their time in the military doesn't end when they are discharged. They fight the battle every day.

Wyoming has the backs of those veterans who are looking for a place to settle down after their military days are behind them. Many veteran opportunities are available, whether they need support, chances to get out and hunt, or have the desire to be a part of a group of like-minded veterans, it's all here in Wyoming.

I've worked with Caleb Lindsay over the last few years on projects like Casper College's Veterans Services, The Veterans Ball, and now he's working on a new project that will impact Casper's veteran population and the battle with mental health issues.

In 2022, the Eyes of Freedom rolling memorial stopped in Casper for the second time and made an impact on Caleb. Part of the memorial is a life-sized bronze sculpture named "The Silent Battle," by Anita Miller, which depicts a warrior holding the dog tag of his fallen friend.

The veteran in the piece is struggling with invisible wounds of service, PTSD, trauma, and thoughts that remain inside. These invisible wounds affect so many of our warriors, so much so that there are over 6,000 veterans who die by suicide every year.

'The Silent Battle' speaks for those who can't.

As a veteran, Caleb knew too well how the struggle can impact veterans. He decided Casper would be another great location to become the home of 'The Silent Battle,' which began a mission to bring a copy of the statue here.

Caleb's desire to get the process rolling has come a long way, and is now moving in the direction of having the tribute here, giving veterans a place to visit and begin healing. As the process continues to build, there is now a The Silent Battle Casper Committee Facebook page with information on the project, and a fundraising campaign in the works.

If you're interested in being a part of this special campaign, please reach out to the Casper Committee on their Facebook Page and get ready to see this mission come to fruition.

I sat down with Caleb to talk about the specifics of the project. You can listen below.
