Rallies Planned To Oppose Selling Wyoming’s Public Lands
The fight to stop the sale of public lands continues, as Senator Mike Lee has revised his original bill to mandate the sale of up to 1.2 million acres of BLM land. The revised bill removes U.S. Forest Service lands from consideration, but BLM will be required to sell land in 11 western states.
- Wyoming
- Colorado
- Idaho
- Utah
- Alaska
- Arizona
- California
- Nevada
- New Mexico
- Oregon
- Washington
Montana will remain exempt from being sold.
Multiple rallies are planned for Thursday, June 26, in Wyoming.
The bill says the land that will be sold will be within five miles of "population centers," and will be used solely for the development of housing or infrastructure and amenities to support the needs of housing.
According to the bill, anything "federally protected" will be excluded from sale. That includes: National Parks, National Monuments, Conservation Areas, Wilderness Preserves, Seashore, Historic Sites, Historic Parks, or Historic Recreation Areas.
The new version of the bill states that 5% of the funds raised will be allocated to local governments, and 10% will be dedicated to hunting, fishing, and recreation amenities, with the funds expiring in 2034.
Backcountry Hunters and Anglers are still encouraging you to call and email your Senators to stop the sale of public lands.
BHA's website features a 'Take Action' page, which provides all the necessary contact information to reach out to government officials and express your opposition to selling public lands.
