In July of 2027, Wyoming will get its first Freedom Rock, and it will be in Casper.

What's a Freedom Rock? Good question.

According to Falon Justice, who is helping secure a Freedom Rock for Wyoming with Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Wyoming 36-1, it's an incredible work of art by artist Ray "Bubba" Sorenson that will be a tribute to veterans.

The Freedom Rock is based out of Iowa.It is a beautiful, giant, like 7-foot-tall boulder that he hand paints to memorialize and then also thank veterans and local service members, and he keeps it very local to the area.

Sorenson began painting the first Freedom Rock in Menlo, IA, in 1999 and decided he'd like to put one in each of Iowa's 99 counties. Once he finished Iowa, his mission shifted, and he started the 50 State Freedom Rock Tour.

Currently, there are 12 states with at least one Freedom Rock, and a couple of states with multiple Freedom Rocks. Wyoming, Ohio, and Virginia will be the next three states Bubba will visit to customize a Freedom Rock.

Wyoming will receive ours in July of 2027. That gives the organizers a year to raise the money needed to secure the properly sized boulder, and the group behind Casper Freedom Rock is in fundraising mode. The CVMA WY 36-1 just held a fundraising bike show and plans a summer of Bike nights at Bull Horn Brewing in Casper to help raise funds for the Freedom Rock project.
