LARAMIE -- The University of Wyoming wrestling team didn’t put its best foot forward Saturday against Oregon State. The No. 23 Cowboys fell to the Beavers, 25-12, inside the UniWyo Sports Complex.

“We played into their game plan – wanting to lock fingers, lock wrists and hold positions,” head coach Mark Branch said. “It’s one of our worst performances that we’ve had in a while. I didn’t think our energy was good on the bench. We’ve been in these situations before where we get down early and then somebody steps up and changes it. We didn’t have anybody change it.”

The result drops the Pokes to 4-5 overall. The Beavers improve to 6-1 on the season.
Wyoming claimed a win in three bouts Saturday. Two of those wins were ranked victories and two were bonus-point wins.

No. 9 Eddie Neitenbach (184) dispatched No. 30 TJ McDonnell via decision, 12-5. It was a workmanlike win that moved Neitenbach to 4-0 all-time against McDonnell.

No. 25 Luke Willochell (133) boasted the other ranked win. He took care of No. 32 Gabe Whisenhunt via major decision, 13-5. Willochell’s win gave Wyoming its lone lead of the night at 4-3.

No. 8 Christian Carroll (HWT) rounded out the Cowboy victories. He eased past Khale McDonnell via technical fall, 19-4.

Oregon State claimed seven of the weights. And they weren’t just wins, as the Beavers scored bonus points at 141, 165 and 197.

Wyoming is back home next weekend with a pair of duals. The Pokes host Air Force on Friday at 6 p.m. before battling North Dakota State on Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. Both duals will be held in the UniWyo Sports Complex.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
