Three-Star Texas Receiver Verbally Commits to Cowboys
LARAMIE -- Top-ranked Oregon offered.
So did Texas Tech, Arizona State, Louisville, Kansas and Arkansas. Texas and Texas A&M kicked the tires, too.
Deion DeBlanc, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound wide receiver from powerhouse North Shore High School in Houston, chose Wyoming. He announced his verbal commitment Tuesday on social media, just three days before the unbeaten Mustangs face Katy in the third round of the 6A UIL Texas Football State Playoffs inside NRG Stadium.
Maybe you were wondering who Jay Sawvel was referring to Monday when he said 'You could probably shake your head as to like, 'How we are getting this player?'
That's DeBlanc.
He was one of nine prospects in attendance at Wyoming's narrow 17-13 setback last Saturday night against No. 12 Boise State.
"A lot of it just had to do with the people here in Wyoming and the fan base," Wyoming's rookie head coach added.
DeBlanc earned a three-star rating from 247sports. He's also listed as a Top 100 player and receiver in the state of Texas, according to the recruiting website. He boasts a time of 4.4 in the 40-yard dash and finished the 100 in 11.42 and the 200 in 22.96 during his freshman season on his prep track team.
Before transferring to North Shore in 2022, DeBlanc was the District 14-6A Newcomer of the Year as a freshman at Aldine Eisenhower.
DeBlanc has 576 receiving yards on 40 receptions this fall. He's added five touchdowns, according to MaxPreps.com. The speedster also has an additional 131 yards and two scores on the ground on just eight carries.
It can't hurt that DeBlanc faces Devin Sanchez each day in practice. He is currently the No. 1 cornerback in the nation and is set to sign with Ohio State.
Sawvel said Monday the program has 18 verbal commits. He hopes that number will reach 23 by the early signing period, which begins Dec. 4. His plan is to sign "35-plus" this offseason.
