LARAMIE -- One always wears his heart on his sleeve. The other, most times, barely speaks above a whisper.

Both were offensive coordinators at Wyoming, following their former boss, Craig Bohl, to Laramie.

Only one, though, will hoist the FCS Championship trophy tonight in Frisco, Texas.

Tim Polasek's North Dakota State Bison (13-2) will take on Brent Vigen and his Montana State Bobcats (15-0) inside Toyota Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN.

Those head coaches aren't the only connections to the Cowboy State, either.

NDSU defensive coordinator Grant Olson began his coaching career in Laramie as a graduate assistant. He spent the 2015 and '16 seasons under Bohl before landing his first full-time job at Indiana State under another former Wyoming coach, Curt Mallory.

Jack Plumb, an offensive quality control coach for the Bison, is also the grandson of former UW head coach and longtime NFL assistant Fritz Shurmur.

Three Sheridan products -- defensive back Brock Steel (No. 27), wide receiver Dane Steel (No. 35) and running back Colson Coon (No. 28) -- are on Montana State's roster. The twin grandsons of former Wyoming wrestling coach Joe Dowler -- safety Caden Dowler (No. 5) and wideout/ returner Taco Dowler (No. 14) -- are, as well. Those five are also roommates.

Sean Chambers, who served as the Cowboys quarterback from 2018-21, throwing for more than 2,300 yards and rushing for another 1,103, is the assistant quarterbacks coach and an offensive analyst on Vigen's staff in Bozeman after capping his playing career as a Bobcat.

Chambers accounted for 31 touchdowns in a Wyoming uniform and helped lead the team to a pair of bowl invites in 2019 and '21. The California product didn't appear in either due to leg injuries.

Jake Vigen (No. 44), who started his playing days at Laramie High School, is also on the MSU roster. His younger brother, Grant Vigen, signed with his father's team last December.

Bill Lamberty, Assistant AD of Communications at MSU, is also a Wyoming graduate.

Brent Vigen came to Laramie with Bohl back in 2014. He guided some of the top offensive players in school history like Josh Allen, Tanner Gentry, Brian Hill and many others. After Vigen accepted the MSU gig before the 2021 campaign, Polasek was named his successor at Wyoming, where he ran the offense for three seasons.

Both served on the same staff under Bohl in Fargo from 2006-12, together winning two national championships.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
