Cowboys Land in Ninth in Preseason Voting

LAS VEGAS, Nev., -- Wyoming Cowboy head coach Sundance Wicks along with guard Kobe Newton and forward Cole Henry are in Las Vegas representing the Cowboys at the Mountain West Conference Men’s Basketball Media Days at Resorts World on Thursday.
The trio will be live on the Mountain West Network talking Cowboy basketball at 1 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. They will also meet with local and national media during the time in Las Vegas.
The league released its annual preseason poll on Thursday morning. The Pokes were picked to finish ninth, as the new look Cowboys did not have any players named to the Preseason All-Conference team. Boise State was picked to win the conference followed by New Mexico, Nevada and San Diego State. UNLV was picked fifth followed by Utah State, Colorado State and San Jose State. Fresno State and Air Force rounded out the preseason poll.
Boise State’s Tyson Degenhart was named the Preseason Player of the Year. Kobe Sanders of Nevada was the Preseason Newcomer of the Year and Pharaoh Compton of SDSU was named Preseason Freshman of the Year.
The Pokes host College of Idaho in an exhibition contest on Friday, October 25 at 6:30 p.m. inside the Arena-Auditorium.
Wyoming will officially open the season on November 4 hosting Concordia-St.Paul. The contest is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start and is part of a doubleheader with Cowgirl basketball hosting Colorado at 5:30 p.m. The Pokes game will start 30 minutes following that contest.
