Around the world, deadly attacks on houses of worship took place with relentless frequency in 2019.

In all, hundreds of worshippers were killed at churches, mosques, synagogues and temples.

The worst onslaught came on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka, where Christian worshippers accounted for the majority of about 260 people killed in coordinated attacks on three churches.

In New Zealand, a gunman allegedly fueled by anti-Muslim hatred attacked two mosques in the city of Christchurch. Fifty-one people were killed.

Other targets included a synagogue in Southern California and a Buddhist temple in Thailand.
