Geologist Says Landslide Caused Crevasse
POWELL, Wyo. (AP) — The Big Horn Mountains have a new feature after a crevasse opened up in the southern end of the range.
The new formation is about 50 yards long and 50 yards wide. The gash garnered attention on social media after SNS Outfitter & Guides shared an image of the crevasse on its Facebook page.
Wyoming Geological Survey Manager of Groundwater and Geologic Hazards and Mapping Seth Wittke says the formation is likely the result of a slow-moving landslide. The gash is on private property, so in order to investigate the Geological Survey must first receive access permission from the property owner.
