Flaming Gorge Drowning Victim Identified
A man who drowned in a boating accident on Flaming Gorge Reservoir over the weekend has been identified as 48-year-old Lance Heninger of North Ogden, Utah.
Sweetwater County Sheriff Mike Lowell says Henninger and two other Utah men were competing in a fishing derby on Saturday afternoon when the accident happened.
One of the survivors later told investigators that the wind picked up around 4 p.m., creating choppy water and dangerous conditions. One wave swamped the boat and a second wave swamped the craft completely, forcing all three men into the water.
While the other two men in the boat were wearing life jackets, Henninger was not. The two men wearing the jackets were found alive around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. They were taken to a Rock Springs hospital, where they were treated and released.
Henninger's body was found around 4 a.m. in a cove along the east bank of the gorge. The sheriff said the investigation into the death is continuing.
