One firefighter suffered a minor knee injury, but otherwise no injuries are reported in connection with an early Wednesday morning fire at 3916 Ridge Road.

City of Cheyenne spokesman Scott Smith says firefighters were called to the fire at 1:30 a.m. on January 7. The fire was out by 1:50 a.m. and firefighters did a complete search of the duplex.

It turns out the only occupant in the home at the time had escaped without injury after being alerted of the danger by smoke alarms. The only injury in connection with the fire was to a firefighter who slipped on the ice, injuring his knee. He was treated at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and released.

Damage is estimated at $73, 000, and investigators says the fire was caused by a heat lamp close to combustible materials.

Cheyenne Fire and Rescue spokesman Byron Mathews says the incident should remind people how important it is to have working smoke alarms in their homes.
