Westminster Police arrested a man over the weekend on suspicion of aggravated robbery, first-degree assault of an at-risk person, and theft, according to the Denver Channel.

Police arrested 50-year-old Armando Valdez Gonzalez on Sunday (June 6), who they say robbed an elderly couple and then dragged and injured an elderly woman with his truck as he tried to get away.

Officials said the couple, who are in their mid-seventies, were having a yard sale on Saturday morning (June 5) in the 4700 block of W 102nd Avenue in Westminster when the woman suddenly noticed someone had stolen their bag of money.

The woman tried to confront Gonzalez who had already gotten into his truck; the woman reached inside the truck as it pulled away, and was dragged a short distance before eventually falling off the truck and losing consciousness, according to Westminster police.

The woman reportedly regained consciousness at the scene and was transported to the hospital. Family of the elderly couple told Denver7 that the woman suffered a fractured pelvis and could potentially have to undergo surgery.

Police obtained video of the truck involved in the incident on Saturday and began searching for the suspect. On Sunday, a person of interest had been identified but police did not release their name until later in the day, when Westminster police put out a news release informing the public of the arrest.

A GoFundMe has been started by a family friend and neighbor of the elderly couple to help with medical costs from the incident. To donate, click here.
