Debate Looms Over Legalizing Marijuana in Wyoming
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A low-simmering debate over whether Wyoming should legalize marijuana may be about to flare up.
Wyoming Rep. Sue Wallis, a Republican from Recluse, says she intends to introduce a bill to decriminalize marijuana for medicinal purposes.
Independently, a marijuana advocacy group says it will conduct a petition drive aimed at full legalization. The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws says it wants to put a ballot question before Wyoming voters in 2016.
Wyoming's neighboring states of Montana and Colorado have legalized some uses of marijuana. Wyoming still counts marijuana possession as a crime, with possession of anything over 3 ounces classified as a felony.
