The Director of Oncology Services at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center says the new $40 million dollar cancer center at the hospital is now expected to open in late January.

Tammy Thiede says the new center was originally scheduled to open this month, but she says a series of regulatory hurdles has yet to be cleared. She says the other factor in the delay is the late opening of the CRMC emergency room. That facility had been slated to open October 28th, but technical problems with the internal communications system pushed that date back to December 2.

Thiede says having both new facilities open at about the same time would have posed major challenges to hospital personnel. Thiede says CRMC typically sees around 450 cancer patients a year, and she says the new facility will greatly improve treatment options and convenience for those patients.
