WICHITA, Kan. – The Wyoming volleyball team fell in straight-sets Friday afternoon to No. 17 Creighton, in the opening match at the Wichita State Shocker Volleyball Classic. Set scores went 25-19, 25-10 and 25-19.

The Cowgirls (6-4) were led offensively by Naya Shimé’s nine kills, while Faith Waitsman added seven in the loss. As a team, UW struggled to get anything going offensively, hitting a season-low .016, while Creighton (10-1) hit just .174 on the day.

Defensively, Erika Jones led the Cowgirls with a season-best 18 digs, while Waitsman collected a career-high 13 of her own. Payton Chamberlain led the way with a match-high 21 assists, to go along with eight digs.

Overall, the Bluejays out-blocked Wyoming 9-3 in the match, while also collecting nine aces at the service line. Wyoming failed to record an ace in the loss. Waitsman, along with Lexie Collins, who was making her first career start, both had three blocking assists against CU.

Wyoming will look to bounce back with a pair of matches Saturday. The Cowgirls will face host-Wichita State at 9 a.m., Mountain, before closing the tournament with a 3:30 p.m., contest against South Dakota.
