Wyoming football will have to replace its defensive coordinator, as Scottie Hazelton is leaving the high plains for the “Little Apple,” Manhattan, Kansas.

247 Sports reported Monday that UW defensive coordinator Scottie Hazelton will be the new DC at Kansas State under the Wildcats’ new head coach Chris Klieman. An official announcement is expected Tuesday.

Kansas State had to search for a new DC after Ted Monachino left to become an assistant coach with the NFL’s Chicago Bears.

Hazelton engineered a Wyoming defense that finished in the top 30 in total defense and scoring defense in each of the past two seasons.

This becomes the third position open on the Wyoming staff. Head coach Craig Bohl recently announced the hiring of Klayton Adams as offensive line coach to fill one void. Now with Hazelton gone and Mike Bath’s departure for Western Michigan, two spots on the staff are open.
