‘Click It 307′ Campaign Reminds Wyomingites to Buckle Up
Thousands of motorists will take to the roads this Memorial Day weekend, and law enforcement will be cracking down on those who don't buckle up.
To stress the importance of seat belt use, Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead joined local law enforcement officials and first responders at the Cheyenne Public Safety Center this (Tuesday) morning to kick off this year's "Click It 307" May Mobilization campaign.
"The statistics are sobering," said Gov. Mead. "In 2017, 941 traffic crashes involving an unbelted driver or passenger resulted in 59 fatalities and 434 injuries."
"So far already in Wyoming in 2018, there have been 33 crash fatalities in Wyoming compared to 35 last year, seven fatalities in the last week alone," he added. "That equates to one a day."
Gov. Mead says Wyomingites "need to do better" at buckling up.
"We spend a lot of time, money and effort trying to discover how to save lives and here we have this opportunity for us to buckle up," he said. "It's free, it takes virtually no time and in doing that we avoid the economic costs and most importantly we avoid the human costs."
