The Cheyenne Police Department is reminding local motorists about the Accident Alerts that are issued when their are a lot of car accidents in the city.

Spokesman Officer Dan Long says that when the alerts are issued, people involved in minor "fender-bender" accidents should simply exchange their information, and wait to report the accident to police during the next business day.

The alerts are more common during bad weather and do not apply to major crashes, including those involving serious injuries. He says the alerts are implemented because officers are too busy to respond to every accident.

The alerts are issued through the Cheyenne Police Department facebook page and through the local media.
