Cheyenne Mayor: Gun-Free Zone Decisions Should Be Local
Cheyenne Mayor Marian Orr says she wants people to understand that her opposition to a bill that would eliminate most gun-free zones in public buildings is based on a philosophy of local control, not out of any pro-gun control sentiment.
The mayor appearing Monday on KGAB radio in Cheyenne said she is, in fact, a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. But she says the problem she has with Senate File 75 is that it is taking what should be a local decision and putting it in the hands of the legislature.
She says her belief is that the government which is closest to the people should make such decisions--meaning they should be made at the city and county level, rather than by the state.
