Cheyenne Man Gets Probation for Smashing Car with Sledgehammer
A Cheyenne man who took a sledgehammer to a car sitting in front of his neighbor's house in August has been sentenced to three years of first-offender probation.
Seventy-four-year-old Kenneth Brooker was sentenced Monday in Laramie County District Court.
Brooker was arrested for felony property destruction on August 14, after police discovered he had vandalized a Hyundai Veloster that was legally parked across the cul-de-sac from his house.
When police questioned Brooker about the incident, he said, "Yeah! I did it. I'm sick of people parking there. I took a sledgehammer to it."
Because of Brooker's age and lack of a criminal record, the judge accepted a plea deal in the case and sentenced him to first-offender probation.
If Brooker successfully completes his probation, he will be able to keep the felony conviction off his criminal record.
