Cheyenne Man Gets Probation for ATM Thefts
A former armored truck driver who admitted to stealing more than $150,000 from ATMs in Cheyenne and Laramie earlier this year has been sentenced to three years of probation.
David C. Netterfield was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court. He was also ordered to pay $59,000 in restitution.
Netterfield was arrested in June after he was caught on camera breaking into the ATM at the Wells Fargo Bank on E. Pershing Blvd. in Cheyenne.
Netterfield told Laramie County Sheriff's deputies that he'd been skimming money from the ATM and estimated he'd taken $41,000. He also admitted to taking $18,000 from Wells Fargo and Walmart ATMs in Laramie.
Netterfield said he knew he couldn't repay the money he'd taken, so he decided to stage a break-in on the ATM at the Wells Fargo in Cheyenne. His plan was to replace the money he'd taken from the two ATMs in Laramie and keep the rest "for a rainy day."
