Commercial and non-residential property owners located within the boundaries of the Cheyenne Downtown Development Authority/Main Street District have approved a new mill levy.

The mill levy, which will double property taxes from 10 mills to 20 mills, passed by an 84 to 62 vote during a special election on Tuesday.

The mill levy goes into effect on January 1, 2016, and is good for the next four years. It can be used for DDA administrative costs, planning or management of development or improvement activities, promotion of public events, and activities in support of business recruitment and development.

The Cheyenne City Council will officially certify the special election canvassing board’s results by resolution at an upcoming council meeting.
