Experience Cheyenne's July 4th Festivities and Patriotic Parade

The celebration of America's 250th anniversary in Cheyenne will include a concert performance of the beloved Broadway musical "1776" on July 2, as well as parades, fireworks and other festivities on July 4.

Nathaniel Trelease is Chair of the Cheyenne and Laramie County 250 Commission. On Tuesday, June 30th, he gave us an update on the calendar of events for the celebration.

Trelease said things will kick off on Thursday, July 2 with a live concert presentation of "1776" at the Cheyenne Civic Center. The concert will feature the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with the Cheyenne Chamber Singers, Cheyenne Little Theatre and Wyoming America 250.

Trelease says 1776 is the story of John Adams, who Trelease calls 'one of our underrated, yet greatest founders." Trelease says Adams "really encouraged, cajoled...the other delegates to the second Continental Congress to pass the Declaration of Independence."

Trelease calls the musical a "brilliant retelling about John Adams own personal agony about whether he is going to succeed or not. There are poignant, almost some cynical songs about the South and the bargain that was made in order to pass the declaration by overlooking the issue, more than the issue the moral imperative of slavery."

General admission tickets t0 1776 cost $10. ''We wanted to make it accessible to everyone" Trelease says of the ticket prices. Tickets are available at cheyennepresents.com.
