According to initial reports regarding the incident, Loveland Police were called to the lake at  about 8:30 p.m. last Thursday night (July 22) on reports that a person was missing in the water.

“One person came ashore with a two-person boat — a kayak or canoe, I’m not sure which — and said another person was still in the lake,” said Tom Hacker, spokesman for the Loveland Police Department.

Loveland Fire Rescue Authority's Dive Team immediately responded to the reports of the missing man; they took to the lake, which is located just west of Boyd Lake, upon arriving at the scene, while other crews searched the land around the lake until the body was located.

By 9:50 p.m. Thursday night, fire officials reported that the dive team had found and recovered the man's body.

At 10:07 p.m., the victim, now identified as Cabrera-Carbajal was pronounced dead, as per information from the Loveland Police Department.

The Larimer County Coroner ruled the death of 27-year-old Alfredo Cabrera-Carbajal an accident. The cause of the Greeley man's death was asphyxiation due to freshwater drowning.
