Bighorn Reservoir More Than 70 Percent Full
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Bighorn Reservoir on the Montana-Wyoming border is more than 70 percent full despite record-breaking outflows.
Water has been gushing into the 72-mile-long reservoir at a high rate over the past couple of months, and a lot of snow is still sitting in the Wyoming mountains, where snowpack is 165 percent of average.
Snow continued to build in the Bighorn River basin until the end of April, and only this month has the mountain snowpack started to decrease.
Still, it will be early June before the lake is high enough to make the boat ramp useable at Horseshoe Bend Marina near Lovell. The ramp needs a lake elevation of 3,617 feet. Right now the lake is at 3,603 feet.
