U.S. Senator John Barrasso was among 11 republicans who voted against the confirmation of Sally Jewell to be the next Secretary of the Interior. Barrasso said he is concerned that Jewell is not committed to the multiple use of public lands. Barrasso said multiple use is such a part of Wyoming's history and heritage in terms of recreation, farming, ranching, energy exploration and tourism. The Senate approved Jewell's nomination by a vote of 87 to 11 Wednesday, with all the no votes coming from Republicans. Jewell will oversee more than 500 million acres of national parks and other public lands, plus more than 1 billion acres offshore. The lands are used for energy development, mining, recreation, and other purposes. Jewell replaces outgoing Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.
