7 Fun Facts and Myths About Denver International Airport

As air travel starts ramping up, due to pandemic restrictions easing, it's a good time to take a look at Colorado's iconic airport.

Whether they be facts or myths, Denver International Airport has more than a few things that you might want to be aware of. You don't have to believe all of it, but knowing them can come in handy, for when we get back to attending dinner parties.

WEIRD: THAT 'NEW WORLD' MARKER

The capstone for the airport mentions the 'New World Airport Commission,' which nobody seems to be able to ascertain why. The gang at VICE do seem to think that it was done just to mess with people. But again, why?

MYTH: TUNNELS LEAD TO NORAD

There's a myth that not only is the terrible, abandoned, original baggage system below DIA, but also tunnels that lead 100 miles to NORAD.

FACT: THERE'S A STEVE MILLER SONG SPOOF ABOUT THE AIRPORT

9News did a parody song about DIA, including its duly-maligned baggage system:

It takes 20 minutes to walk up the 548 steps of the control tower at DIA. A good workout when on the way to the 'lookout.'
