5 Reasons Why “Green” Cars Don’t Help The Environment [Commentary]
We're constantly hearing how "green cars" are saving the environment as they depend much less than a conventional car. Well, that's a load of carbon, according to some.
Environmental economist Bjourn Lomborg, director of the Copenhagen Consensus Center, advises on how "environmentally-friendly" these green cars are....not!
Here are 5 reasons why "green" cars are really not helping out the environment and why I think that the federal government should leave our Wyoming coal and crude oil alone.
- More than 1/3 of the lifetime CO2 emissions from and electric car comes from the energy used to make the car itself. (Especially the battery).
- Lithium mining is NOT a green activity.
- When an electric car rolls off the assembly line, it has ALREADY been responsible for 25,000 lbs of CO2 emissions. A regular car is only responsible for 16,000 lbs of CO2 emissions.
- When you "plug in" the car for recharge, it takes coal, another fossil fuel to accomplish that.
- Throughout the full life time of an electric car, it will emit just 3 to 5 tons LESS CO2 than a conventional car over it's lifetime.
There are many other evidences to the green car helping the environment myth, but we only highlighted 5 here. So I wish the federal government would go away and leave Wyoming and its precious resources alone.
