The Pine Bluffs Hornets have been one of the more consistent boys basketball teams in the state with nine straight trips to the state tournament. Entering this year's 2A state get-together, the Hornets were the #2 seed from the east and drew Wind River in the quarterfinal round. Pine Bluffs prevailed 58-41 thanks to a remarkable game from Stuart Lerwick who tossed in 28 points on 11-21 from the field and 5-10 from the three-point line. Ty Sweeter chipped in 10 as the Hornets shot an astounding 63% from the field in the 2nd half.

Next up for Pine Bluffs was Rocky Mountain in the semi-final round which resulted in a tough 50-45 loss. The Hornets were outscored 14-7 in the 4th quarter and hit just 3-12 from three-point land. Lerwick had 15 and Sweeter had 10 and what was amazing is that Pine Bluffs turned the ball over just 3 times in the entire game.

The final game of the state tournament for Pine Bluffs was for 3rd and 4th place against Sundance. The Hornets were outscored in all four quarters en route to a 65-37 defeat. They finished the year 13-11 getting 10 points from Sweeter and 9 from Ryan Fornstrum.

Stu Lerwick was an all-state selection and the sophomore averaged 14 points a game, so he had a bright future. Sweeter was an all-conference pick and he threw in 11 points a game. Another all-conference pick was Reed Thompson who averaged 11 a game. Collin Jesson and Dalton Schafer were all-conference as well so Pine Bluffs should be tough next year. All five guys who earned post-season honors will return in 2021-22.
