Despite changing the way they count visitors and despite the fact that the park was shut down for almost 3 weeks in October, visitation to Yellowstone National Park in 2013 was the 5th highest in the park's history.

Yellowstone National Park spokesman Al Nash says Yellowstone saw 3,188,000 recreation visitors in 2013. Nash says because the park used a lower multiplier based on new surveys to count visitors in 2013, they have a "higher level of confidence in the visitation numbers they are reporting for 2013 than in previous years."
