After he threw for a career-high 374 yards, accounted for 396 yards in total offense and passed for four touchdowns, Wyoming Cowboy Sophomore QB Brett Smith is up for two honors in which fan voting determines the winner. Smith was named one of the Manning Award “Stars of the Week” and is also a candidate for the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas MW Player of the Week honor.

Monday, Smith was selected by the Manning Award as one of its eight “Stars of the Week”. That makes Smith eligible for this week’s Manning Award Player of the Week, which is determined by fan voting.

Wyoming Cowboy fans may go online at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for Smith. The link to the voting is: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152241654815459.926175.297090315458&type=1

Smith threw for a career high 374 yards and accounted for 396 yards of total offense, while completing four touchdown passes in Wyoming’s 28-23 road win at New Mexico. Smith completed 62.5 percent of his passes (20 of 32) and threw TD passes of 81 yards to Robert Herron, 64 yards to Dominic Rufran, 33 yards to Jalen Claiborne and 19 yards to Claiborne. Smith’s previous career high in passing yards was 370 at Idaho. Including his four TD passes, Smith completed eight of his 20 passes for 15 yards or more. Those eight long gainers went for 81, 64, 33, 19, 15, 27, 27 and 16 yards. Smith also had a long rush of 25 yards. With his 396 yards of total offense, Smith came within five yards of his career high in total offense of 401 versus Toledo. He now has 22 TD passes on the season against only six interceptions this year.

This is the second time this season and third time in his career that Smith has been selected as a Manning Award “Star of the Week”. Earlier this season, he was honored for his performance in a 40-37 overtime win at Idaho. A year ago, Smith was voted the Manning Award Player of the Week for his performance in a 30-27 win over San Diego State.

Smith was also the only sophomore in the nation named to this year’s Manning Award Preseason Watch List. The Manning Award honors the top collegiate quarterback in the nation at the conclusion of each season.

The MAACO Bowl Las Vegas announced its four candidates for the Mountain West Player of the Week Award on Monday, and Brett Smith is among the nominees.

This is the third time this season that Smith has been a candidate for the award. He won the honor on Sept. 12 for his performance vs. Toledo, and was also one of four candidates the week following his performance against Idaho.

All voting is done by fans through the official MAACO Bowl Las Vegas Facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/lvbowl
