ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (AP) — A wildlife last September in southeast Wyoming has been ruled an act of arson.

The Smith Mountain Fire that burned in Albany and Carbon counties was originally thought to have been a controlled burn that got out of control. The fire was started on Sept. 27 and was brought under control on Oct. 11.

The fire started immediately north of a Bureau of Land Management prescribed burn, causing firefighters to initially conclude that the burn had escaped its intended confined area.

However, the BLM says in a news release Monday that evidence of multiple origins aroused suspicion and an investigation determined a liquid was used to the start the fire in multiple areas.
