Wyoming & Utah Highway Patrol Host Safe Kids Event

The misuse rate of child safety seats is high.  That is why the Wyoming Highway Patrol partnered with Utah Highway Patrol and Safe Kids Uinta County at a recent child safety seat check-up event held in Evanston, Wyoming, at the Bear River Greenway Pavilion.

During the inspection event program the Troopers inspected a total of 57 child car safety seats.  Troopers also replaced, free of charge to the family, a total of 14 car seats that were either damaged, out dated or the history of the child safety seat was unknown.  Families that passed through the inspection also donated a total of $75.00 cash which was given to Safe Kids Uinta County and will go towards the purchase of additional child safety seats. In addition, the Troopers provided instruction to parents/guardians on how to properly install their new child safety seats into their vehicle.

Safe Kids is a nationwide network of organizations working to prevent unintentional childhood injury, the leading cause of death and disability for children ages 1 to 14.

According to the Safe Kids USA web site, unintentional injuries kill more than 830,000 children annually worldwide and permanently disable even more. To combat this problem, Safe Kids was founded in 1987 by Children’s National Medical Center with support from Johnson & Johnson.
