It's the kind of story that makes your skin crawl. Sometime between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. last Saturday, a man in Gillette rolled up a puppy in an air mattress and threw her in a dumpster. It was -3 degrees.

Luckily, a neighbor heard the puppy crying and called the police, who rescued the four-to-six-month-old hound mix before she froze to death. The man who left her in the dumpster is now in jail and could face two years in prison for aggravated animal cruelty. Meanwhile, the community has rallied behind "Missy".

Missy was rushed to the Animal Medical Center of Wyoming, where she was treated for severe hypothermia. When she was released on Tuesday, AMCW noted that Missy "has been through a lot and her recovery will be long."

For now, Missy will remain in the care of the Gillette Animal Shelter.  The shelter has raised enough money to cover Missy's medical bills along with inquiries from several families who want to adopt her.
