Wyoming Senator John Barrasso isn't ready for an independent counsel in the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

At least not yet.

In a phone interview with K2 Radio News in Casper, Barrasso said, that despite the fact that former Trump campaign officials will be called to testify before the committees involved, and given the firing of the head of the FBI, he wants to leave the investigation in the hands of Congress.

"We have a bipartisan group in Congress, so I'm not calling for a special, independent counsel," Barrasso said. "What I am saying though is that what the FBI has been investigating should continue and I'm sure, will continue. Certainly (former FBI Director James) Comey is not the one doing the investigation. They have teams of agents working on this and that's going to continue. We need to make sure we get someone to run the FBI who has the confidence f the American people and pass muster in a bipartisan way."
Barrasso also said that the investigation of the Russian involvement is of paramount importance.

"I have huge concerns about that," he said, "and we're going to get to the bottom of it. There is a commitment from Republicans and Democrats alike to get to the bottom of it, and to make sure the country stays safe and strong and secure."

Barrasso said that one thing to keep in mind is that Vladimir Putin is not the friend of anyone in the world right now.
