CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Oklahoma State Provost Robert Sternberg has been named president of the University of Wyoming. The UW Board of Trustees unanimously decided yesterday that Sternberg would become the 24th president of Wyoming’s only four-year public university. He will take office July 1, succeeding the retiring Tom Buchanan.

WELLINGTON, Colo. (AP) — Snowy, windy weather is making for treacherous driving on Wyoming and Colorado roadways. The Colorado Department of Transportation shuttered a stretch of Interstate 25 yesterday morning from Colorado to the Wyoming border and again in the evening from Wellington, Colo., to Cheyenne because of the nasty weather. CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Legislature has sent Gov. Matt Mead a bill to authorize the creation of a state lottery. The House and the Senate voted yesterday to approve a compromise bill that calls for the first $6 million in proceeds to go to local governments. Any proceeds over that amount would go to a public school foundation fund.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming state Senate has tacked on funding to fight possible federal gun bans to a bill meant to encourage bison hunting. The House will have to approve the additional $250,000 in funding for the Attorney General’s Office for possible legal action. President Barack Obama has called for a crackdown on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines after the Connecticut school shooting.
