Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, who holds Wyoming's lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, took to social media Sunday to denounce white supremacy and neo-Nazism after a car crash killed a woman and injured 19 others during clashes between groups of protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia on Friday.

"My prayers to out to the victims of #Charlottesville domestic terror attack. Vile white supremacist/neo-Nazi hatred has no place in America," Cheney posted on her Facebook page.

The counter-protesters assembled against the "Unite the Right" rally, which saw at least 15 others injured in addition to those hurt when 20-year-old James Alex Fields, Jr. of Maumee, Ohio, drove a car into the crowd.

Heather D. Heyer, 32, was identified as the woman killed in the crash. She was a paralegal who was reportedly crossing the street when Fields slammed his car into another vehicle near a group of counter-protesters, leading to Heyer's death.

Hours after the deadly crash, federal authorities announced that a civil rights investigation had been opened in connection with the incident.

Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency after the clashes between the two sides.

Throngs of politicians, community leaders and private citizens have decried the violence and the "Unite the Right" rally itself, which was organized by self-proclaimed white nationalist and other right-wing groups.
