CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming game wardens are pushing state lawmakers to increase the penalties for sale of illegally taken wildlife and other game violations.

Daniel Beach of the wardens' association says Wyoming should make it a felony to sell wildlife that's been taken illegally. There's already a federal law making it a felony to trade in poached wildlife across state lines.

The Legislature's Joint Travel, Recreation, Wildlife and Cultural Resources Interim Committee earlier this month directed legislative staffers to draw up a bill for consideration

Bob Wharff of the Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife group says his members would support higher penalties for illegal trade in wildlife. But Wharff says the illegal outfitting portion of the bill must not target Wyoming residents who take out-of-state friends and relatives hunting in the state.
