The Wyoming Department of Education is partnering with employers to ensure students are ready for the next step after high school.

"Times are changing and so must we," said Superintendent Jillian Balow. "This initiative allows us to meet our responsibility to look at every student individually to help them determine their next steps after high school, whether that is college, career, trade school, community college or the workplace."

A state team consisting of educators and business members has been assembled to build a framework so that all students have pathways and choices when it comes to career readiness.

"Career and technical education is an area that has gained little statewide attention over the past several years," said Balow. "There is often times a limited partnership between business and industry and the school districts and we aim to change that.  We aim to put business and industry as a lead partner in career readiness and really be in the driver's seat with business and industry when we make decisions about what the steps toward career readiness look like in high school."

Balow says the goal is for Wyoming to be the best in the nation at preparing students for life after high school.
