Wyoming Cowgirls Rout UNLV, 82-56

The Wyoming Cowgirls won consecutive games in the Mountain West for the first this season with an 82-56 blowout of the UNLV Rebels Saturday at the Arena-Auditorium in Laramie.

Sophomore point guard Marquelle Dent continued her excellent play. She led the way with 18 points, seven assists, three rebounds and three steals in only 29 minutes of action.

Two other Cowgirls scored in double figures. Kaitlyn Mileto finished with 16 points, and Fallon Lewis recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Kaylie Rader added nine points off the bench, while Kayla Woodward scored eight.

Wyoming (15-6, 6-4) took the lead for good on a 15-2 run in the first half. That put them ahead 22-13 at the 11:55 mark. UNLV rallied within five points, at 25-20, but the Cowgirls answered with eight straight for a 33-20 lead. UW enjoyed a 43-31 lead at half.

The second half was all Wyoming, as the Cowgirls never led by less than ten points. Their biggest lead was 31 points with just under three minutes remaining.

The victory marked the 100th conference win for Wyoming head coach Joe Legerski.

UW shot 47.3 percent (26-55) from the field, 9-20 (45%) from deep and 21-31 (67.7%) at the foul line. They forced 17 Rebel turnovers, which led to 22 points, and the Cowgirls had a 10-0 edge in fast break points.

UNLV (9-14, 6-5) was led by Alana Cesarz with 16 points. They were held to 32.8 percent (20-61) shooting from the floor, 3-15 (20%) from 3-point range and finished 13-23 (56.5%) at the stripe.

The Cowgirls return to action on Wednesday, February 12 at San Diego State. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
