Brian Hill ran for a career-high 289 yards and a career-high three touchdowns to lead Wyoming past Nevada, 42-34, last Saturday in Reno.

Wyoming (5-2, 3-0) has started 3-0 in conference action for the first time since 1998. The Pokes were still members of the old Western Athletic Conference that year.

In a release from UW, head coach Craig Bohl said, “Coming in we knew it would be hard fought game because they play so well at home. We were very physical and were really able to run the football.”

Hill raced 56-yards for the game’s opening TD. He added a 2-yard run in the second quarter that made it 14-3 Cowboys. Hill also scored from 20-yards out in the third for a 35-20 edge. In fact, he had seven rushes over 15 yards in the game.

Bohl added,

“Brian was phenomenal tonight and really fought hard. It was a great win, and we are excited. These are the type of wins that build a program.”

Josh Allen added two rushing touchdowns and caught another on a trick play from Austin Conway. An interception by Logan Wilson sealed it with 32 seconds left.

Wyoming ran for a season-high 401 yards. They had 540 yards of total offense. Wilson finished with nine total tackles, seven of them solo, a sack and the pick.

Nevada (3-5, 1-3) scored on five consecutive possessions, as the Wolfpack tried to keep pace, but they couldn’t slow down the Pokes. James Butler ran for two scores, while back-up QB Tyler Gangi had a touchdown run and touchdown pass. Nevada finished with 479 yards on offense with 347 coming through the air.

The victory by the Cowboys sets up a showdown for first place in the Mountain West Mountain Division against No. 14 Boise State. Wyoming will host the Broncos at War Memorial Stadium Oct. 29 at 5 p.m.
