SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) — A north-central Wyoming town plans to sell five bison from a herd of seven in the city park because their numbers have grown too large.

Sheridan Public Works Director Nic Batseson says the city is taking proposals to purchase one or more of the bison. A selection committee will review the proposals.

Bateson says the decision to sell the bison was made in collaboration with Wyoming Game and Fish, which owns the two elk in the pasture at Kendrick Park.

Bateson says one of the bison is due to give birth in the next few weeks, which will add another member to the herd.

Sealed proposals can be submitted to the city of Sheridan until 10 a.m. on June 22.
