A winter storm is expected to hit southeast Wyoming late Tuesday and Wednesday, according to an official with the National Weather Service in Cheyenne.

Richard Emanuel says that as of Monday morning it appeared the worst part of the storm would hit Converse and Niobrara Counties,.

Winter storm watches have been posted for those areas as well as the mountains of southeast Wyoming, but the situation could change and more severe weather could eventually expand into other areas of southeast Wyoming as well as the Nebraska panhandle and northern Colorado.

Emanuel says the latest information Monday morning was predicting "a couple to a few inches of snow for Cheyenne," but he added the snow could be heavier in Cheyenne if the storm slows down.

Strong northeast winds of 30 mph or more could also create blowing and drifting snow and poor travel conditions.

Emanuel says it will probably start snowing in Cheyenne very early Wednesday morning, continuing through most of the day before tapering off late Wednesday afternoon or early that evening.
