Winter Suspends Search in Wyoming Cold-case Murders

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — An investigation into the murders of a woman and her two children in central Wyoming in 1980 remains open more than three months after a Missouri man admitted to the crimes.

Gerald Uden, of Chadwick, Mo., pleaded guilty Nov. 1 to three counts of first-degree murder.

The case remains open while investigators seek to recover the bodies of 32-year-old Virginia Uden and her sons, 11-year-old Richard and 10-year-old Reagan, from a deep lake in western Wyoming.

Uden confessed to shooting his ex-wife and the boys and dumping their bodies in Fremont Lake. Authorities searched the lake last fall but have suspended those efforts until spring.

Uden's wife, Alice, goes on trial March 4. She's pleaded not guilty to a charge of killing her previous husband in Wyoming in the mid-1970s.
