There have been some different thoughts, both pro and con, on the subject of Medicaid expansion in Wyoming. Some are saying that we should not expand Medicaid.  Today on the Top 5 at 7:45, I'll highlight what the other side is saying concerning Medicaid expansion and why they think that we should not honor the Governor's call to do so.

  1. Medicaid Expansion Is Not The 'Moral Thing' To Do For The Needy - People in Wyoming are saying that the expansion will hurt the impoverished and the inevitable end of Federal cost-sharing paves the way for a Wyoming state income tax.
  2. Nobody Can Make An Accurate Projection - Some are saying that there is no way that anyone can make an accurate projection of cost for Wyoming. Some are saying that this is an insane risk to taxpayers in Wyoming.
  3. Wyoming Tax Payers With Be Left With The Bill - Should the U.S. default on it's financial obligation, and there are those who are sure it will, a normalized rate environment means no funding for Federal Medicaid expense after 3 years or so.
  4. The Federal Reserve Will Begin Raising Short-Term Rates In 2015 - Some people in Wyoming understand this to mean each 1% increase in Federal Borrowing costs reduces spendable funds by $180 billion per year. We can't sustain that.
  5. The Federal Government Will Not Guarantee - Payments from the Feds are not a guarantee, according to some folks in Wyoming. They are stating that with $18 trillion in nation debt, interest must be paid ahead of every other expenditure, including Defense, Social Security and Medicare.
